this weeks fotos

we are standing in front of one of the hundreds of orry statues in the mall.

this is a doha landmark, near the waterfront.

obvious, isnt it?
just started winter started early because of the asian games this year. she is getting quite bored of sitting at home, yesterday she asked me..amma, can you call the teacher and ask her to put school today?

we're kind of swamped in the flu zone.

here's some nonsense..

Q.Why are fire engines red in colour?

Ans. fire engines have ladders.
ladders have steps.
steps are one foot apart.
foot can be measured using rulers.
a ruler can b a king or a queen.
elizabeth is the queen of england.
elizabeth is also the name of a ship.
ships float on water.
water has fish.
fish hav fins.
fins r the people of finland.
the colour of the national flag of finland is red.
so fire engines are red.........

as all the guys who check this blog know, both me and chinnu had our birthday this week. on my day, everyone called and made me feel so special, i dont know what to say to all of you, but thanks!!

prathe surprised me with a cake when he came back from office, nidhin & vipin came home to wish me, jullin chechi made payasam, mummy made appam & mutton stew, well, at the time i just wished i was in tvm to eat the appam and stew, and in alain to taste the payasam, but now after 2 days, (during which i made and ate payasam AND appam) you kow, i get this warm and fuzzy feeling when i think about it. in the evening we went out to dinner(what? kitchen duties on my birthday??) and then went to buy my birthday gift...guess what? i wanted an appachatti. so we went to lulu and shopped around and came our with a bill of QR130, but no appachatti. well, we will find it someday.

on the 17th, ema, the daughter of our friend geo, celebrated her birthday. it was a rather large gathering of ppl that felt like a family group. lots of kids, games, and everyone had lots of fun.ponnu sang on the stage for the first time. (she sang yankee doodle and orikkaloru kaakka). i managed to draw the meeesha on a picture correctly! everyone was so involved, the hotel people had to remind us to please eat..we have to close in half an hour..

by the time the party ended, it was already chinnus birthday. so ponnu overslept, and missed school. ayway, they had a fun time opening the favours from ema's birthday party. we did not go out, so did not buy erachi, so did not make biriyani as originally planned. make do with chor & curry, in the evening, ranimmanty and family came so sing happy birthday, then we went to church, we bought a cake and cut it , made appam and chkn curry, well, that day went by too.

chinnu was singing the birthday song over and over, i'm sure she's learned it by heart by now. she was so excited about cutting the cake, she wanted to cut the cake into bits and pieces. here are some senti fotos..

november is here!

there isnt much to report. we have a set of november birthdays, so we had to attend a number of parties. three kids had their first birthdays, their parents all had party at hotels, on different days. so we went gift shopping and immediately went into sticker shock..the prices have increased.... in the time i went to india and came back...a QR40 dress is now at least QR75. so we had to shell out much more than we expected:( of course, the fact that i was in india for about 6 months may have something to do with it.. the inflation here is one of the main topics of conversation between expats these days. just yesterday, the price of ALL brands of milk went up by QR1. not to mention vegetables..and house rents..but it is the same situation all over the world, right?

nikki got an injection as part of the national immunisation drive, from her school. she said none of the other kids cried, so she dint cry either. after coming home she was quite upset and she tucked her hand into the side, acting like a vikalaangi..she wouldnot put on her shirt in the morning today, saying it would hurt, but when the conductor of her school bus lifted her up with that hand, she had no problems..naaadakam!! anyway, we now know that most of the tears will stop if we arent nearby.. karayunnathu vere aarenkilum kandaal weight povoolle?

and, at last, we got our camera repaired. we had to replace theCCD, and the service center charged QR550, but then one of the supervisors( a friend from our church) saw us, so the bill got cut to 400. i wonder how much profit they are making from us, if just friendship can cut 150 off.

i am sending some fotos that were taken when the camera was still faulty, so the colors will be a bit off. one or two, in the right color, were taken from a friends camera. those of you who saw chinnus fotos can see some similar fotos of ponnu at the site.

nothig else to write all know that jothishettai &fly are coming over to see asian games, right? well, thats all the news here .

now i'm off to get out of the house and get some fotos of all the asian games decorations....i have a working camera at last!!! for starters, i will send a foto of the official mascot, Orry the oryx.

Points To Ponder

#1...Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are getting weak?

#2...Why do banks charge a fee on "insufficient funds" when they know there is no money in the account?

#3...Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?

#5...Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection?

#6...Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?

#7...Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him?

#8...Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

#9...Whose idea was it to put an "S" in the word "lisp"?

#10..If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?

#11..Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white?

#13..Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?

#14..Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance?

#16..How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures?

#17..When we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping cart then apologizes for doing so, why do we say, "It's all right?"
Well, it isn't all right so why don't we say, "That hurt, you stupid idiot?"

#18..Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over?

#19..In winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat?

#20..How come you never hear father-in-law jokes?

#21..If at first you don't succeed, shouldn't you try it like your wife told you to do it?
#22..And obviously if at first you don't succeed, then don't take up sky diving!

#23...The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four persons is suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends, if they're okay, then it's you!

week of nov 1

nothing worth mentioning happened. so there is nothing to write.
well, let me think..

we dint celebrate kerala piravi, we forgot our friend's birthday, we (unknowingly) let the crab curry spoil in the frig,(i guess you all know how old the curry was..), i tried an instant appam mix and failed spectacularly, chinnu learned how to climb back up the slide, (a VERY short baby-size slide at the park..), ponnu taught herself to mix a bottle of milk for chinnu, she's been at my back to let her do it ever since.

pratheesh finally started working in earnest, now the hailstorm of homework is here, he's home, but not quite. his boss left for training, so he's taking those classes too. quite busy, that man.

mummy and pappa returned after a delhi trip, kunju has returned after a bout of mootta kadi. (she says she 'looks' fat because of the mootta bites, the increase of 5 kgs has nothing to do with it!)

daddy and mummy had quite a scare after daddy got some abdominal pain, but they did all the investigations and it seems everything is all right.

francis kuty chayan left for Poland for some training, so shirley chechi and the kids are left to enjoy it for 3 weeks. angela/vava is a volunteer for the asian games.

ranimmanty and fly visited the famous Brother Devasia Mullakkara while he was in doha for a week. they were all impressed, and anty is having a good time, enjoying interacting with all the beleivers, meeting others and participating in a prayer group which is a good pastime since she dosent work.
vipin is a volunteer too. the boys are going to evening school and generally chillin', if you know what i mean. vipin got his own car, they'd come to visit sometime back.
serin, well, she's there.
